Bookmaking Workshop - Sunday July 27, 2025
We are pleased to announce a Printmakers Society of the Lehigh Valley upcoming workshop on July 27, 2025, 11 am - 3 pm. Dee Collins (@booksboxesandbeyond) will lead a look at traditional and artist's books, with discussion about the possibilities of including prints in book structures. You are invited to bring books that you may have made or collected for discussion. (If you have no book experience that is perfectly OK too.)
After lunch Dee will give a hands on workshop on basic bookbinding which will get you started on what hopefully will be a lifelong love of bookbinding. Books are a great vehicle for prints, it's where printing started. It's the perfect way to create in a small space, the perfect way to make prints interactive, sculptural, movable and accessible. The book is a wonderful vehicle for displaying your prints and for using the ones that don't turn out the way you'd hoped. You'll learn several structures and make models to refer to later.
Dee is a printmaker, book artist and art educator who relocated to Bethlehem from Philadelphia. She worked at The Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts and retired from the Free Library of Philadelphia, where she worked doing book and paper conservation. Dee also taught at her alma mater, Moore College of Art and Design and several other area colleges. Her work spans many mediums including: book and paper conservation, book arts, decorative and conservation box making, printmaking, painting, and collage. Dee enjoys including printmaking in her artist books, which can be seen in 500 Handmade Books vol. 2 and 1,000 Artists books.
